Isle of Man Road Transport Images
483 photos in 18 sub-albums
This is just a trial folder containing historical and up to date images of road transport in the Isle of Man. It has come about because a number of enthusiasts interested in North West area operators including the IoM operators have indicated that they have had difficulty in finding a site with both historical and modern images from the IoM. Of particular historical interest are the sub folders containing images of Douglas Corporation and the later IoM National Transport operations. As indicated this is just a trial run to see what the general reaction is for the subject. and will of course be removed if not enough interest shown.

Demise of Shearings
16 photos
From 1st June bus service provision is on the increase as a result of the partial easing of lockdown restrictions. It is however bad news that due to the pandemic the majority of coach operators now find themselves in crisis. Locally, coach operator Shearings, owned by The Specialist Leisure Group and incorporating National Holidays has gone into administration with the loss of around 2,500 jobs. Along with travel arrangements the SLG provided package holidays owning hotels trading as Bay Hotels, Coast & Country Hotels and Country Living Hotels, non of which will reopen. Shearings was founded in 1919 in Oldham by Herbert Shearing, who then took over Eniway Motor Tours in 1935, a company offering express coach transport between Manchester and London. As a tribute to Shearings a selection of images showing examples of liveries carried over the past 20 years can be seen below.

Paperwork
114 photos
This folder is for scans of timetables, fare tables, traffic notices, inter departmental notices and letters etc. However to build this folder up into an archive of the often overlooked administrative side of Ribble the help is required of anybody who has any relevant paperwork. Would you have a look in that bottom drawer and contact us, using the contact form on this web site, if you come across anything you may think is suitable material for inclusion. - Many thanks - Keith Till.
